Groundbreaking Ceremony Takes Place at Venture’s SSOW Digester on Long Island
Warrendale, PA (April 21, 2022) – Ground has officially been broken at the site of our Source Separated Organic Waste Facility in Long Island, NY. The event took place on Wednesday, April 20th at 11am, and included representatives from the project owner, American Organic Energy, the EPC Contractor, Venture Engineering & Construction, Inc., and a few other players in the renewable energy industry, namely, the Citizens Campaign for the Environment and Energy Vision. The event hosted some political and community officials as well, including representatives from New York State Governor Kathy Hochul’s office, and reps from Suffolk County and the Town of Brookhaven.
Apart from the actual groundbreaking (pictured below), the event included opening remarks from Adrienne Esposito, Executive Director for the Citizens Campaign for the Environment, and a keynote address from the CEO of American Organic Energy, Charles Vigliotti. The day also included statements from the Founder of Energy Vision, Joanna Underwood, Suffolk County Executive, Steven Bellone, as well as other New York State political officials. Venture Engineering & Construction, Inc. President & CEO, Dave Moniot, also spoke at the groundbreaking, explaining Venture’s role in the project and breaking down some of the more technical processes that go into a project of this variety.
Local news crews were also on-hand to document this exciting project coming to their area. They interviewed some of the major players in the project as well as a handful of residents, showing show that the people of Yaphank and the surrounding communities appear to be excited with the idea off putting their food to work, not to waste.
Once complete, the facility will be designed to process up to 180,000 ton/yr of SSOW and 30,000 ton/yr FOG into RNG, making it one of the largest such facilities in the U.S. The facility will produce ~1,450 million British Thermal Units (MMBTUs) per day, or ~530,000 MMBTUs per year. This quantity of RNG can fuel up to 545 heavy-duty natural gas trucks annually that can virtually eliminate smog-forming pollutants and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 80 percent.
